Fairway drivers work well off the tee on holes that need shape rather than raw distance, and they are the standard choice for wooded courses where a wide gap does not exist. Understable fairway drivers hold long right turning lines, and overstable ones give you a reliable finish left.

A good next step once you are throwing a midrange consistently. If a distance driver is fading out early and going nowhere, a fairway driver will almost certainly go further for you.
